My most favorite plane of all time! Followed by TBF Marauder, then P-38, then A-10. Great video

@Slaktrax

There were a few aircraft that were supposedly given the name ''Whistling Death'' The Bristol Beaufighter was the initial one with this nickname and is more widely known.
You didn't mention anything about the Brits getting rid of the bounce in the main oleos, raising the seat, developing the Malcom-type cockpit hood and raising the tail wheel. I think they also found the curved approach to the carrier deck also got around the difficulty of landing with the long nose.

VF-17 was fully carrier qualified in the F4U by Sept 43 but was off loaded from the Bunker Hill in Hawaii due to lack of spare parts in the CV supply system.

Now it looks like there will be poop all over your pants

@speckitis

God bless the Brits for discovering the angle deck while trying to make the F4U suitable for carrier aviation.

@rayschoch5882

The F4U may have been the better plane (not sure if that debate will ever be settled), and it was certainly an effective fighter and fighter-bomber, as evidenced by its long service life, but it was certainly NOT "the most lethal fighter of WW II." Grumman's F6F Hellcat ended the war with a 19-to-1 kill ratio, and shot down 75% of all the Japanese aircraft shot down in aerial combat in the Pacific Theater.

@csharp7926

pretty sure the f6f had a higher kill ratio.
