A shortcut and trick I used to use - if you take the L (-30) and look at the answers, you can narrow it down to A or B. I always use FOIL but eliminate the noise whenever I can. Sometimes it works where you can eliminate 3 out of 4!

With multiple choice, just solve only what you need. First and last got you A and B as possible options. Using both + and - meant small inner number leaving B.

Why math? I spent many hours learning this only to never use it. I’m convinced that knowing this “kind” of stuff is an indicator for “higher ups” that this individual has the ability to learn complex “Tasks” aka make them more money. (Hopefully, in turn the individual makes more money) 
Ultimately the individual is a tool now.
