Reunification went as well as it did because Grant and Lee were semi-friends. All the officers went to the same military schools, so everyone knew each other and how they thought.

Southerners are happy to attend reunions and reenactments because they excepted their defeat and we’re proud that they put up a good fight. Unlike one of today’s political parties.
