@ValKovalchuk

Thanks for watching! Let me know in the comments, what do you love about your body??

@Deem57

I really like your approach here: balance, accentuate, or cover. I'm a 5'3" post-menopausal woman whose hourglass has thickened in the middle. I tend to try to camouflage the thickened middle but maintain a balanced silhouette. Loose tucking of tops with higher rise bottoms and a longer jacket or cardigan tends to be my formula these days. In the Kibbe system I'm a Soft Natural so this makes sense.

Just to note: body shapes are based on three measurements, the shoulders, waist and hips. Bust size or the amount of body fat or fleshiness doesn’t enter into it at all, it’s just about your frame structure, or bones. There are skinny, flat-chested Apples, Rectangles like me who have no athletic characteristics at all, but have a naturally large bust, and every possible variation. The “ideal” female proportions have the Hourglass shape, with equal shoulder and hip measurements (approximately within an inch or two), and a waist that is at least 25% smaller than one or both of those measurements. Many models are Rectangles, later in life they gain weight all over, but that doesn’t make them Apples. I was always an Hourglass, but hormones in mid-life cause proportionally more fat at the middle of the body. I still look like an Hourglass, except with less waist definition than in youth, this is very common, too. Not all fleshier or overweight women are Apples, most aren’t, they gain fat all over, but the frame shape doesn’t change, ever.

Great video, Val! I loved this. If something doesn’t fit how you want, it’s the clothes you need to fix, not your body. Awesome reminder.

My favorite part of my body is probably my hair! I feel like it completes all of my outfits. 😁

@gracedarlenemcpherson9079

Apple shape here. Thanks for the great tips.

Great info delivered in a gentle and kind manner 💗.
I used to feel that my legs were much bigger in proportion to my body, but over the last 6+ years I have embraced my body and am grateful for everything.
I do like the idea to accentuate certain things, like my waist and neckline.
But now if I feel like wearing shorts I always do and don’t feel uncomfortable:)

Such a great video, I love your calm and positive vibe.

This was so helpful! I think I am an inverted triangle, so I have broad shoulders and a large bust. I have always felt top heavy and have difficulty finding clothes that feel flattering on me. So thank you for all of these examples! My favorite part of my body is my legs and booty 🍑

Great video, as always, Val. A lot of your regulars are out at Independence-Day eve parties, or at least around here they’re going strong.

Appreciate the body you have now, especially if you’re young. I look back at pics from 30-40 years ago and my body looks near-perfect, what was I grousing about? I’m a bit heavier, and thicker-waisted now, but always try to love the body I have. I want to encourage young women to achieve or maintain a normal BMI, though, for their health and to make dressing easier and more fun. When I once thought I might try Plus size clothes, I was amazed at the terrible selection, fit and fabrics they use. It’s nothing but black polyester stretch pants, skirts and maybe a dress or two. Mostly my waist thickened with middle-age, but they are still made with a waist 10-12” smaller than hips and bust, the fit was terrible on me. Having to wear Plus sizes takes away a lot of fun of choosing clothes. Try daily walking to lose or maintain weight, it keeps me in the normal BMI range, just barely!

I'm firsttttt. Keep the great vids coming Val!

I know your video was about what to wear to be comfortable, something that's very important to me, but, I was so interested in your headboard! Love it! Where did you find it? If you don't mind sharing! Good information, thanks!

Good tips!

I prefer “minimize”, the opposite of highlighting, rather than covering parts of our bodies that we don’t love as much. I think everyone, regardless of size, should show or hint at their shape, rather than wearing tent-like clothes. It’s the curves that make us women, they’re gorgeous. For example, I’ll wear a form-skinning dress, but not in a shiny fabric that highlights my too-round tummy.
