It's a big city but it's spread out. Tlaquepaque in the southern end is a cool artsy area to visit.

I've gone there. It is very commercialized. Not as modern as Monterrey, not as touristy or beachy as say Cabo, not as urban as CDMX, but somewhere in the middle. It kind of reminded me of suburban America with a lot of shopping. If you like shopping and eating at some neat, clean spots this is a good place

Great idea for a weekend outing. Our airport has direct flights to Guadalajara at great prices. A long weekend trip would be awesome.
