Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi: Brothership ~6 months after their reveal trailers. MORE OF THAT PLEASE

@focusfireno.1099

8:43 I believe that is the root of the problem. We've reached a point at the games industry where games that shouldn't be taking so long to make, are taking too long to make. Whether its expectations, development gone wrong, contract issues, budget issues, scale creep, etc. Things aren't the same as they were in the 2000s and 2010s. Even indies face these issues, so its not just a major studio thing either.

As for how this pertain to KH and SE, it's quite clear they have a communication issue. If they had made it clear that we wouldn't have seen KH4 anytime soon, I think we wouldn't be in this position. With DQ12 and FF7 Remake (post CC2) you could've at least hypothezied that we weren't seeing those for a while. KH4 all we got was "the next update will be past E3's timing" which is the most vaugest thing I've ever heard.

I think a lot of us would be chill with what's happening with any game if they had a wall of text on Twitter letting us know what's happening. Even if its not substantial, a dev talking to the public about the big game is good.

@Diogo85

The reason they announced KH4 early was because of the NVIDIA leaks. If the leaks hadn't shown up, they probably wouldn't have announced it that early.

@tridek1949

I feel like part of the reason Squeenix pulls this move is so they can gage audience reactions and adjust in real time.

@TheGoodWitchLuz06

I can’t take it to be honest this year has to be our year when it comes to KH4 to know when it’s coming and new news hopefully when it’s the 23rd anniversary next Friday we will get something

@Cyn_Razz

I’m under the desire to have games announced WITH their release date. None of this delayed and early announcement BS we’ve been dealing with forever. How often do you see a movie trailer with no release date? Hardly ever. Let’s have the same for video games, please.

@BrennySpain

You, ProdigyXCD and thegamersjoint are truly onto it! The longest kingdom hearts drought we’ve ever been in and it’s not competition at this point either.

@davidordaz5251

Yeah kingdom hearts has a communication problem plus with squares many controversies business decisions honestly have lost all hope and any faith in the company and because of that have moved on from kh and been playing other games that have never played and been branching out its nice to go to other games other than kh games

@Diogo85

Square Enix could be making us wait so they can surprise us.

@EChacon

Thanks for the insightful video lowkeymatt. Personally, this doesn't surprise me cause Square Enix as a company has been infamous for announcing specific titles (e.g. Final Fantasy XV (when it was Final Fantasy Versus XIII), Kingdom Hearts III, Kingdom Hearts IV, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy XVI, etc.) and then they don't release any updates and info of the upcoming for 3-5 years after their announcement until the next trailer where they announce the game's official release. But to make things more complicated, Square Enix or whomever is running Square as a company seems to focus more on the other big game titles or their mobile apps games than the specific game that was announced 3-4 years ago.

Now I understand that development for triple-A games and JRPG's like Final Fantasy and especially Kingdom Hearts take 3-4 or 4-6 years of development, but it's honestly crazy that Square Enix or literally any gaming company announces a title like 3-4 years ago but goes through development hell that lasts for 5 years to a decade until release and not making any updates on the games progress.

@JonseyLetsPlays

The rent must be due huh?

@chadgaming8288

I think, in all honesty and at the EARLIEST/LATEST, we’ll PROBABLY get Kingdom Hearts IV in 2026 or 2027.

@jimmergames

I wish that Disney would of provided an update every 3 months

@cottoncandiez8872

I tried so hard to get into kingdom hearts 3 there was just something about it that didn't resonate with me so I'm not entirely looking forward to the next one

@jimllc

Just because we HAD waited so long for Kingdom Hearts 3 doesn't mean that we SHOULD be.

@ferro_drip189

It’s said that we’re gonna get it in 2026, I’m willing to keep waiting, more special things are coming. We just gotta keep waiting.

@thenobody7509

So, supposed kingdom hearts 4 actually started development in 2020. In 2022 they decided to show that trailer because they were scared the game would be leaked. We were never supposed to see that Kh4 trailer in 2022. Now it's 2025 and I am confident we are going to be seeing Kh4 again sometime this year if not this month.

@domd6789

To be fair, I would rather wait for a good game, than gamble if a game will be good or not in a year.

@roronoazoro7317

Square has come under new management and seem to be wanting to correct announcing games to early. The issue is KH 4 was announced before this happened. Hopefully they stop announcing games to early.

@KurayamiGGEZ

If KH4 even comes out. Square Enix has been losing money recently. Don't be surprised if KH4 never comes out.
