This was so much fun—thanks for stopping by our Headquarters! Fun fact: the Jupiter model you see behind Bill is an actual prop from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It’s cracked because it fell during an earthquake in Pasadena!
When I was in college, Bill Nye came to speak. Myself and all my classmates remembered watching his Science Guy show as kids. Chants of "Bill! Bill! Bill!" greeted him as he took the stage. He proceeded to give a very informative, passionate talk about science, and took questions afterwords. Great guy.
People who actually deserve a podcast.
I absolutely adore that Bill has never lost that spark, and that enthusiasm. I hope he still gets to be awestruck a few more times in his experience in this living world.
I was born in 1996 and Bill Nye was the option for movies to watch in almost all my science classes growing up and im thankful for it because im still here learning stuff. Thank you, Bill and Neil, I'm glad to be in the same lifetime
Bill has that 2000s stoner movie energy, just a chill guy
I swear these guys could have their own show and id watch it every day
GUYS - with Bill Nye as your guest, this has to be longer!! I could have easily listened to this conversation go on for another two hours. We need more of Bill!!!❤
I met Bill Nye in 7th grade in 1991. We had a field trip where we slept over in the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. It was a blast :)
It’s refreshing to see experts as friends and in such a casual manner.
I'm 56 and as I get older, the more I think about all the scientific discoveries I'm going to miss when I pass on.
Im 40 years old mexican american grew up in ghetto trailer park no grown ups spoke english kids my age we were bilingual sum had no dad sum parents worked to much never home some were over protective whatever mid 90s to 2000s we rebeled started a gang and really created havoc ... not proud at all but it was our reality ... SOMEHOW BILL WAS ABLE TO REACH ME AND PULL ME IUT OF THE TRENCHES ENOUGH FOR ME TO REALIZE ONE DAY I WOULD MAKE IT OUT .... NOTHING TO DO WITH SCIENCE BUT THE WAY HE CONNECTED IT WAS THE BIG BROTHER I DIDNT HAVE HIM AND MR ROGERS ... NOW AS A GROWN UP WHEN I DISCOVERED NEIL I IMMEDIATELY KNEW HE HAD THE MAGIC TOUCH AND AROUND THE WORLD HE WOULD HELP KIDS GET THRU TOUGH TIMES .... THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE LOCAL TO US BUT NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE FOR MANY REASONS BACK THEN THE TV MADE THE CONNECTION POSSIBLE NOW CONNECTIVITY IS MORE ACCESSIBLE THAN EVER SO TRUST ME GUYS MANY MANY KIDS ARE BEING SAVED AND INSPIRED ... LIKE NEIL WAS AS A KID BY MR SAGAN
I watched Bill Nye as a child on the roll in vcr/tv combo at school. It unlocked curiosity in me and I am now a scientist. TY Mr. Nye.
They’re speaking about complex theories but somehow make it so comprehensible. My two favorite science guys ❤❤❤
Im 36 and my generation LOVED Bill Nye. We watched his show in Cuyhaoga Falls middle school in, jees, that was like around 1998 or so. Wow. Such a living legend. Both men are my heroes.
If you had a chance to ask Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson a question, what would you ask? WHO KNOWS?! It may be answered in an upcoming video!
I grew up watching Mr. Wizard’s World and then in 1993 at 14yrs old I was able to watch Bill Nye the Science Guy. It may have been aimed at 10year olds but for those of us that had already caught the love of science beforehand, it was like a homecoming. I was fascinated and adored the show. Bill Nye is a childhood hero that made it to adulthood hero! Thank you Neil, Startalk, and The Planetary Society for bringing us this great interview!
"...and if we found them, do they have DNA?". This question blew up my mind. It just made me realize how huge it would be to find microorganizisms outside of planet earth. If they don't have DNA, what molecules would they have???
As an Aussie, I've heard of Bill Nye before (mainly through Big Bang Theory), but have never heard him discuss science until now. Thanks StarTalk. I really like both his candour and his passion for science. What a great guy!
