Being a hunter before joining the military is a plus. Alvin York is a hunter Carlos Hathcock is a hunter Vasily Zaitsev is a hunter Simo Hayha is also a hunter. While Chris Kyle is a rancher.
Think of how many lives Desmond Doss is responsible for ! Not only did he save his fellow soldier's (and some enemy's) lives, but he also made it possible for them to return home and have children, and for them to have children and so on. At this point the number should at least be in the high hundreds if not the thousands. Doss really did accomplish his goal of preserving life while everybody else was busy destroying it.
Merry Christmas and Happy new year everyone
Desmond doss is a hero, there was a priest in Vietnam who pulled and dragged wounded marines out of a fire fight, can’t remember his name. Then four chaplains in world war 2 went down with ship giving up their life jackets to survivors. I served as religious program specialist in the navy and the chaplains are such an inspiration to many men and women and their faith!🙌🙏
Great video. It's the only war documentary I've saved in my "monastic documentaries" playlist. God bless you!
Growing up in rural Canada during the 1960s and 70s, we had a neighbour who was a WW2 conscript and conscientious objector. A devout religious man throughout his life, he had declared himself unwilling to harm another person. He became a medic as it was not Canadian policy to defer or release conscious objectors, but rather find employment in non-combatant positions. Although never serving in combat, he did serve his country nevertheless. He worked in training facilities where serious injuries were common and later in a convalescent hospital. When his fellow soldiers came home and were released from the service, he stayed on seeing to the wounded and helped those able to return to civilian life. We knew him as a very soft spoken devout Presbyterian and good neighbour. When one of us kids would hurt ourselves, usually doing stupid stuff that kids do, he would be there to patch us up before our parents found out. He was never thought of as a “coward” by any of the veterans (my father included) but rather as a man who answered his country’s call, kept to his convictions and did his duty. Nobody could ever think anything else.
The reason I love this channel is since it’s just so entertaining but also informing I believe I used some facts from one of your old videos on a history quiz
“So don’t even try to approach the god, or you’ll get a huge sack like Novgorod!” Ivan the Terrible
Another religious soldier is Vincent R. Capodanno who served in the Vietnam war and was KIA.
HACKSAW RIDDDDGE
Alvin York popped out as a full grown man.

I just know this will have Desmond doss in it.
You folks would love the story of Helge Meyer. Though he was a religious man, he chose to help the effort in the Bosnian war by running essential supplies to the poor and needy in a modified Camaro.
Thanks for all your awesome content Simple History! It’s important we keep the stories of the heroics of these gentlemen alive for eternity. God bless you and merry Christmas to you and your families 🎄🫡
