Okay Theory: so y’all know how Kaidos Fish-Fish fruit is model azure dragon. The azure dragon is highly thought to represent rebirth. The after death activation makes sense because he can’t die. It’s like the fruit is keeping him alive so he doesn’t awaken

Kaido’s devil fruit can’t be awakened by somebody like him since the dragon is apparently a good symbol and/or figure in Japanese mythology. Since kaido is evil he cannot awaken it.

It isn't awakened. Kaido's devil fruit is the Azure Dragon devil fruit. The Azure Dragon is a symbol of rebirth. Meaning for Kaido to awaken he has to embody the Azure Dragon

Kaido's dragon form is Result of Kaido's Fruit and Armament Haki, it would be mantioned that he awaken it or they would show dark clouds

I think it was stated that awakening a devil fruit is based on pushing a fruit beyond its limits. So a fruit that’s already incredibly powerful like the dragon fruit would be near impossible to awaken where as a weaker fruit like kakus giraffe would be easy because it has a low ceiling.

Kaidos devil fruit is the fish fruit model asure dragon he started as a fish and became a dragon therefore awakening it while momonoske is just wielding the dragon fruit

You can see in the anime when kaidos human beast form turns from mainly blue to purple and blue. That’s his awakened form

I think it’s a prerequisite for the fruit if your go to want then the fruit is altered in a fundamental way and the lineage factor becomes that of the new form
