Youtube brought me back to this review watching the Marvels review, and I'm glad it did! I was working on the Haunted Hill conversion when you posted this and your commentary on the lenses really struck me since it was something I was dealing with. I'm not a cinematographer and I have no on-set experience, but the flattening effect of a longer lens is something you do feel a bit intuitively. Buuut... For the conversion method we use, it is generally easier to get stronger depth on close-up shots. I don't really think they used any crazy long lenses on Haunted Hill, but in the end I did usually go with honoring the 3D over the lens. In our case it clearly IS a derivative work đ The 2D version is still around of course, so I thought it was the fairer decision to push the 3D since that's why people would buy our version. I would love to hear more about how the conversion houses do it. There is some pretty amazing virtual camera stuff they have available, but I have seen some articles where they do specifically discuss getting the info on the lenses used for each scene along with the footage.
Yes! This is, far and away, my favorite 3D title, they cranked the stereo dial to 11 and snapped it off! Matching the tone of the movie, the 3D is definitive "hyper stereo" and I, for one, love it! This is the title I screen for guests to show off what 3D can be. Although, I have noticed that of my personal favorite 3D titles, they are mostly the ones that I enjoy the most as movies overall. Perhaps that influences my appreciation of the stereo, or maybe its just coincidence. Hmm... Also, I believe 2017 was the best year for 3D blu-rays, so many stellar titles. And yes, Marvel's golden age (From Guardians 1 through Endgame) are all essential 3D viewings. Its sad the 3D quality seems to be steadily dropping off recently (Shang-Chi and Multiverse of Madness being the two exceptions). Hopefully, if the 3D trailer is any indication, Guardians 3 will buck that trend. I guess we'll find out this weekend. Amazing review man, thank you!
Fantastic! This is probably the highlight of Marvel 3D along with GOTG and avengers. Really enjoyed your take.
4:38 I havenât finished the video yet. Maybe the speaker will qualify this point later and Iâll need to make edits or whatever. But this opinion is well out-of-sync with my opinion and perspective. The notion that this shot at all sends the viewerâs eyes to the subjects feet sounds like a topic inconsistent with the image I see and maybe more aligned with other kinds ofâŚvideo content.
Great movie and great 3D. Oh yes, great review!
Thanks for this review. I've heard nothing about this film but 3D goodness from you, Shane Lee, and Cinemablend. I'll be sure and get my hands on a copy of this flick as soon as I can. You know, watching this video, I realized I actually haven't done a top 10 3D film list yet. If I did so, I'm pretty sure Kung Fu Panda, Hugo, and Life of Pi would be on it.
Well worded on all counts. Agreed.
Oh yes, Goldblum smiling in 3d. Take my money đ°
I think the great marvel 3D started in 2016 and ended in 2021 I'd say. In that time period they were all really pretty much equally good. (Even though I think Guardians of the galaxy 2's screenbreaking effects where things go over the black bars make it the best in 3D) And I'd say Spider-man Far from home was the last of that amazing 3D, then black widow and shang chi still had 8/10 3D conversions, then multiverse of madness I'd say is a 7 and Spiderman no way home and everything else has been a 6. It's a real shame, these conversions used to be state of the art! You know, mr go find fun, I was somehow hoping for a review of guardians of the galaxy 2 in 3D this week because of this week's release of Guardians 3. Also guardians of the galaxy 2 always makes me cry its the best please review it :)
I appreciate your work very much.. I'm a fan of 3D. I have two 3D projectors Epson TW7100 And JVC RS400 at 120 inch screen The 3D looks phenomenal. It's a pity that now there are very few great movies in 3D. Recently I watched Wakande Forever and Dune 3D and somehow the conversion was very poor.. I can't wait to see Avatar 2 on Blu-ray 3D I also recently watched Mad Max Fury Road. Amazing 3D.. will change the perception of the movie It's good that most new projectors have 3D mode
7:52 This is fairly aligned with my take, so far. I do not prefer its story to that of the previous installments - mostly because I am too much of an old nerd to dig âthe goofeningâ thatâs occurred with my beloved comic characters. This movie followed the path set by GotG by making the protagonist too much Flash Thor-don and not the lord of lightning, err, god of thunderâŚwhoâs taken out so easily by small electric discs. . . . The lore is cheapened multiple times. Iâll spare you, atm. So, while the music and humor and 3D can be enjoyable, I was very disappointed - especially dropping the ball on Bannerâs journey, right after this. Alllll that said, Love & Thunder makes this look like Citizen Kane (which I should not invoke, having never seen it).
