No one is ever going to mistake a chunk of Portobello for a meat-steak, but that doesn't mean they aren't damned delicious! I'm definitely going to try this!

@Dwoalin

For those saying this isn't a "steak". Well, neither is a salmon "steak" 😅 Thanks for the video, Merle!

@giannawyatt2282

I get excited every time Merle posts a new video trying viral recipes (because I'm too scared to try them myself sometimes lol and I know I can trust her attempts and reviews)

@nunyabizz50

I've just started growing my own mushrooms, I have Golden, Italian and Blue Oyster mushrooms almost ready to harvest.
All you need is a small grow tent, humidifier, and humidity controller and either buy already colonized blocks or make your own.
They grow super quick and you get fresh organic mushrooms and types you never see in grocery stores or if you do they are $20+ per pound.

@jenjonnybravo

An easy trick to get portobellas not so watery.... scrape out the "gills" (the dark brown stuff) with a spoon. Then you'd get a nice sear on both sides. 😉

@BrokenEvil

I'd probably marinate it first with the "steak" seasonings, liquid smoke, soy, nooch, garlic, maybe some beet juice to make it pink? I mean if you wanted it more like steak lol mushrooms are like a sponge so probably would work, just crisscut,marinate, sear and oven

@hanonondricek411

I've had portobello mushrooms that were grilled over flame and not cooked so much that they shrink. If done right, it's still a mushroom but gives a bit of the "grilled steak" experience - the texture feels like you're eating the tasty fat part of the steak people would usually trim away.

She’s beauty..she’s grace…she’s Miss Mushroom Steak!

@radhika.6878

Recently started exploring mushrooms more, thanks to Merle. Thank you for all the interesting recipes! Love you ❤

@Marta_is_here

I’ll totally try this! But I’ll keep the Portobello mushroom round. Why cut it up 🤷‍♀️
  I’ve got mushrooms and butter in my fridge, sage in my garden, garlic on my counter, and a cast iron skillet ready to go 👍

@SheriLynNut

Portobello mushrooms are my favorite! I can buy them for about $2 each (medium to large) so they are my go to “meaty” flavor/texture so I’m jazzed as heck to try this!
Thanks for the video 😻

@markfeathers

This one looks okay. I had to take a look because I thought I remember you doing it (you did) but the Wicked/Derek Sarno lions mane mushroom looks like the one to beat. His chicken sandwich mushrooms look bomb af too.

@z0wie0

Thankyou Merle for bringing this to us and for being so relatable with the kitchen mishaps. These definitely look worth a try although only small mushrooms are available where I am. Maybe instead of it being a ‘steak’ I’ll use small ones and not trim them down for seared lattice mushrooms ✨💕

“I don’t got mush room on this chopping board anyway” -Merle 2023 😅😂😅😂

@CorineT

Sharp knife skillszs Merle 😏😂

@kimmurray9346

Merle is magical!! 🎉

@farscapefreak8911

Do you think marinating the mushroom in liquid smoke and other seasoning before searing/baking give it the meaty flavor?

@tvommy

send this to every fast food restaurant we need this as vegans
