@Jeanelleats

Does anyone here like tapioca over boba...by any chance...? 🥛

@kimmycup2704

So all boba are tapioca pearls but not all tapioca pearls are boba.

I like the tapioca pearls, my mom always makes them on my birthday. She makes them different colors and always adds sesame paste inside. It’s super good.

@EDuGoIHuvvet

The boba pearls actually freaked me out when I tried it.
I'm very sensitive to textures, and that just wasn't it for me..
BUT, I absolutely LOVE the popping bubble tea/bobas! Not sure they classifies as boba, but when you buy bubble tea/boba in my country, that's most often what they sell. And I love that, because you can choose different flavors, and it feels so cool when they pop in your mouth. Like eating flavored bubblewrap or something 😆

@Rivergirl2878

Her: “what’s the difference between boba and tapioca pearls?”
Me: “you mean they’re not the SAME??!!!??”

@youyuanliang7422

Actually pearls are the original pearls you can add to milk tea, boba is a larger version of pearls, the name boba originated from Mandarin or Cantonese, both boba and pearls you can make them any flavour and colour, they're all tapioca products☺️

@Togaaa.

The 'chewy little balls' had me hollering😭😭

@saracampbell137

I loveee tapioca my mom cooks it all the time! She’s a Filipino :) she also cooks me boba once in a while

@Notintime2338

Where I’m from, we eat savoury tapioca pearls called sabudhana kichdi. But the pearls are smaller than the ones that people use for boba drinks. We boil tapioca pearls and temper it with oil, coriander leaves, mustard seeds and peanuts. It’s one of my favourite evening snacks:)

@LynnNala

Honestly they’re both the same. They start from tapioca starch. However the brown sugar can give the tapioca pearls their deeper color or even food coloring. You can achieve many versions of boba using tapioca starch. However I believe POPPING boba is the difference. In the sense that they’re gelatin bubbles filled with syrup.

@rayyanali4471

For some reason in my Tapioca pearls are more readily available that Tapioca Starch. We used them for desserts and even to make Tapioca crackers. Boil them in water with seasonings or you can also add in some potatoes or shrimps. Once thick, you can optionally blend with a stick blender, then immediately pour circular blotches of the mix on parchment paper and then dehydrate. Can be stored for some time and fried when needed

@apowell_12
