@jnbennett6496

great post, thx 4 the tip, newer GPUs in the future should pay attention to heat control more then anything, i see some of the new 4000 series only have 1 fan

@mrovi789

Gigabyte has the screws inside..so you need to take the front out to get to the backplate...

@joshuakline257

I tried this mod as well but for gaming instead of mining and my temps also went up. My thought was that it might be drawing the heat to the backplate and just letting it sit there instead of allowing it to absorb into the cooler to be dissipated by the fins the and air from the fans directly. My backplate was extremely hot and even my display ports and HDMI port cables that connect to the GPU were way too hot for my comfort. I reached back to unplug my monitors to take my GPU out again and remove the backplate thermal pads and I have never in my life felt a cable connector get that hot lol. My system runs pretty good after undervolting anyways so i just took the backplate pads off and went back to normal. Mining might be a totally different situating than gaming though because in this video i seen his power was at 305 watts, which is lower than what I'm running at while gaming. My GPU die gets about 72C while gaming and almost all my memory temps are about 68C but there's one sensor in the very middle of a row of memory that starts hitting about 85C. I tried 3 times taking it apart and reajdusting the thermal pads thinking it just wasn't making good contact but its always the same results so I'm just going to leave mine alone. My temps are already pretty good as it is compared to what other people get with the 3080 ti ftw3.

@OLvato1

thas a whole 8c off think makes a huge difference, you think the EVGA 3070 FTW3 would also sit well with a 3mm thermal Pads??? i mean they look identical expect the Specs.

@GinoColombi

The main mod is changing pads to the VRM's and front PCB, the backplate ones are more of a nice to have but don't offer much improvement

@Battleneter

I have the same card, SO the backplate is fairly thin with a modest heat soak capacity. Your better off ONLY doing the VRAM that will benefit easily the most. The power delivery components really don't need or benefit, your just putting more heat into the backplate unnecessarily. Secondly you WANT to undervolt 3080/3080TI and 3090 (for general gaming), which will lower power usage by around 100watts with much lower temps and fan noise for a "tiny" loss in performance. Not worth leaving these cards at stock, and forget overclocking. Obviously you will be undervolting I would hope for mining.

@BigBear--

You can’t void your warranty by removing some sticker. That’s been ruled against in US courts. If a company gives u crap based on sticker removal, you can pursue legal action against them.

@andyrodulfo5037

What are your overclocks for the 3080 ti? It's awesome how you get almost 60 mhs with 300 watts!

@masterb0ss

@
Rotocut Gaming does using too much thermal pas near the memory backpate BAD FOR THE GPU TEMPS DOES IS HELP OR HURTS TO USE A LITTLE MORE OF THERMAL PAD ????????

@jasonkerbs806

I really need to do this myself, but I am so absolutely horrified that I'll mess something up, I can't bring myself to do it. Not after I spent so much on it

@Dannyfr33sh

Would you recommend buying one of these cards from a miner to use for gaming?

@ericsandervaz9423

What is the memory temperature míning Ethereum? Before changing thermal pads.

@tlivracing4898

Do you mine with your 3080 ti ftw3? I thought it had a LHR.

@unedit5706

Nice, but did you replaced the vram pads too?

@totaibi5629

i can see 3mm got squashed quit a bit do you think 2mm would be enough? i already have some

@outlet6989

With those temperatures, I'd go for liquid cooling. All GPU makers will soon have, as an option, of course, liquid cooling. Though expensive, they're like having an insurance policy for your GPU and CPU.

@roselovely105

how much thinkness pad did u used

@RingstedHedge

You need to copper mod the gddr6x memory. I can over glock to 4400 in hive and get 109.8 mhs on non lhr 3080's that way.

@demasprojects

300w for Only 59mh? Its bit of a waste. 3080ti has mem Chips Only Front side,so this mod Is not so useful

@somebody22222

If you could do it again, would you stick with 3mm? Or 2mm?
