Welcome to DaVinci. As a video professional I have used every pro NLE you that exists. A good number of years ago I decided to try DaVinci and I've never looked back. And it just keeps getting better and better.
Welcome to the club. Resolve is the BEST piece of software I have ever used, video editing or otherwise. It doesn't crash, it's fast, and it does everything. Oh, and it has so many features you'll never learn them all.
I;m so excited to see what Davinci looks like once this beta is worked into the main program. So many cool features!
The moment you realize the subscription software is ripping you off you understand why so many people have issues with it being a subscription based software, and not only that it is super buggy and not as good as something that is free. I am currently learning DaVinci and how to make certain things I use with my current software (that isn't per month but just not as intuitive as DaVinci).
Great video! First one of yours I've ever had recommended by YT. To clarify, resolve studio licenses are lifetime for the specific version you buy, and BMD has chosen to include free updates so far, but that is not on the license itself and we just got word at NAB that an upgrade fee for a future version is probably coming at some point in the future. Not for v20 and no other details yet, but important to note.
Casey Ferris, Patrick Sterling, Darren Mostyn, and Cullen Kelly've got your back.
So you’re telling me we wasted $3,000 on premiere….. 🙃
Did you count how many time it takes to migrate from Premier do Davinci? I mean the time that was spent to learn new interface and so on. I’m using FCP for more than 8 years and when I start to think about Davinci (because it has free iPad app that actually much better than paid FCP for iPad), the only reason that stops me to switch is to learn everything again… 🥵
Welcome! The free aspect is what got me -- I was able to do so much of my regular work in the free version for years. It was only after realizing the time I could save by upgrading to Pro did I finally buy a Speed Editor (which happens to come with Pro).
I moved from FCP to Resolve at around version 16. Each time I try to use FCP now I'm reminded how good Resolve is. The other advantage of Resolve over Premiere is that it's a one time cost (if you get the Studio version) rather than an ongoing one. And even then, the one time cost is really inexpensive compared to other pro software.
Ironically, I’d made the same switch to DVR yesterday. Not being 100% confident in this decision, your video was reassuring. I’m also liking DVR for the iPad Pro with full plugins - to help in the workflow. Thanks David!
I have been using davinci for a long time and finally upgraded to the studio version last year and I just love it!😊
I've been using the free version of Davinci for 4 years now and I love. It has so much potential. I don't even scratch the service of all the things the program can do. I really love it.
I chose Davinci because it was free. The learning curve was a little steeper than FCP but once you get the hand of it, you realize how much of a beast it is.
Smart choice David👍
Thanks! Just started editing and I LOVE that you helped me decide!
Thanks David!
I am (and have been for years) so frustrated with Premiere Pro for all the reasons you identified (crashing, slow, using proxies etc). I have "free" access through my job so it doesn't cost me anything, but still. Maybe it's time to switch. Thanks David!
I used PP for years as well. A couple of years ago I went to FCP and liked it fine but just a few months ago I switched to Davinci and I will NEVER use anything else. It seems daunting at first because it's so powerful but there are plenty of YT tutorials to get you up and running in no time. And the color is amazing. I just got a Lumix G9ii a few months ago and the color corrections available in Davinci make the footage from that camera absolutely gorgeous. The fact that it's free is just the cherry on top. I truly don't think there is another piece of free software of any kind for any purpose available that offers what Davinci does. Can you tell I'm a fan? 🙂
