@MalachiNorton

Them northstars are monsters when actually built properly

@codygermscheid7081

I had a 2009 Malibu 2.4 that I beat the hell out of and only drank 1 quart every 7k miles. Finally sold the car a month ago at 302k miles. Perfect cylinder compression and great gas mileage. The vehicle was in my family since brand new. Do proper maintenance and you wonโ€™t have an issue

@davidmaldonado3006

I have a 2013 Equinox 2.4 Ecotech that I purchased new with close to 170 thousand miles on it as of today. With regular maintenance and following the service intervals it is still running strong. Folks nowadays just buy a new car and beat the shit out of it like itโ€™s a rental car. My other vehicle is a 2019 Traverse that I purchased new for my wife and it now has under 80 thousand miles on it. Same treatment as the Equinox, regular maintenance and so on. It doesnโ€™t matter what you drive, as long as you take care of it, it will take care of you.

@montebrodie4086

My dad owned 3 of those diesel 350 engines in his Olds delta 88's. He worked in the oil field so fuel was free before they started putting dye in it. He got 180-240,000 miles out of them. they were underpowered but got 40 MPG.

@ethanloper2446

Northstars can be totally fine after the head bolts are re-tapped. Only problem is thats a 5k-6k job sooooo... rarely worth it

@alanbradley535

The diesel 350s are actually prized for building supercharged drag engines. They are alot stronger than the stock 350s

@AllenFrost-r1c

We used to convert the diesel engines back to gas. They were awesome. 12 to 1 compression forged 4 bolt main crankshaft big springs high lift long duration cam. It was a blue print balanced factory race engine. Awesome ๐Ÿ‘Œ

@real_fjcalabrese

You left out Cadillac's V8-6-4. It made the Northstar look like an engineering miracle.

@BillCourtney-u9v

Yup I've never personally seen a 350 diesel. But my dad has always told me, never buy one. Him and my mom, had a suberbon with one back in the day, my dad who is a mechanic, said worse engine he ever owned.

@brandonramos1986

Yeah my homeboy Jerry had a 2002 Cadillac Eldorado & just when the car hit over 100,000 MILES the head gasket blew out on it we was coming back from Houston on I-10 West so push the car to the Buc-ee's parking lot in luling Texas BTW the Beef jerky & Barbecue brisket sandwich ๐Ÿฅช ๐Ÿ˜‹ are delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹

@sombdywakehicks

Acadia never had a 2.4L.
They had the equally notorious 3.6L. which any mechanic has been around for a minute knows were prone to carbon buildup on the injectors and intake valves.
The engine mounts would blow out constantly, all eleventy of them. Oh yeah. And GM decided to put the battery in a really great spot on those too. All in all probably the worst vehicle ever made in my opinion. Acadia, Traverse, Enclave.
Vehicles catered towards the young family demographic, who's going to be financially strapped due to children and they're providing this turd of a money pit. It's unconscionable

@Wilbrown89

I was a lube tech out of high school and the first wtf moment I had was this guy who brought in his Northstar v8 for a leak. It was an oil pan gasket. You have to pull the entire motor to change it.

@geofjones9

Had a boss who had 5 or 6 of those Olds Diesels around. He bought them cheap, ran them until they quit, then used the next one in line. Cheap transportation the way he did it!

@Chris_Troxler

Ok, I have to kinda defend both the Northstar and Olds diesel here. The Northstar is a decent engine once you fix the head bolt problem. Bulletproof it, and it's a good running engine with the proper maintenance. The Olds diesel, despite what everybody thinks, it is a diesel engine from the ground up. It's just based on the Olds 350 design. Its problems were the head gasket and the head bolts, if I remember correctly. Well, if you install the updated gaskets and bolts, plus add a fuel water separator, the Olds diesel was not terrible. Now, the question is, would it be worth spending that much money on a 20 and 40 year old car? Well... that's completely up to you and your checkbook. Personally speaking, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't turn my nose up to an Oldsmobile 98 with the diesel in it. Now, let turn your attention to the Cadillac HT4100...๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ (HT4100 owner here)

@nstg8

"no matter what you do" nope, not true, you can bulletproof a northstar, it just typically isn't worth it.

@glenclifton4563

The 2.2 ecotec were great motors. I bought one in 2008 in New Cobalt and my daughter still drives it between Chattanooga and Nashville weekly. It's got 197000 + miles on it now and still has original motor and trans. Valve cover never been off.

@slimchans

I had a 82 Delta 88 Diesel. I can confirm worst engine ever. Everything broke on them. Some parts were hard to find back in the 90's .Parts like vacuum pumps and glow plug controllers were especially hard to find.

@redlightingwolf1985

Northstar performance fixes any 4.6 V8 engine, Northstar 4.4 Supercharger V8.

@arlochristman8668

I had an eco tech motor that I ran 15/40 diesel oil in and it stopped consuming oil and never made a ticking noise ever again. ๐Ÿ˜‚

@dscart01

Had my Northstar fixed for 2 grand and have driven it cross country 3 times and put on 180 K in the past 14 years still going strong.
