They should've allowed this in the first place. The only reason they're doing this now is because of the abysmally low adoption rate for Windows 11
I Have Two PC's running Windows 10 , Both around 5 years old with plenty of life left in them. When I run the Windows test to see if they are upgradeable to Windows 11 they pass all the tests including TPM and the processors are multi core so should be fine, The only issue they have is that Microsoft do not have the processors on their list of supported processors ! I wonder how many thousands / millions of PC's also fall under this category, Are governments aware of this huge environmental tradgedy being created by Microsoft.
No worry about warranty as that expired a couple of years ago. I will see how this upgrade goes and if my proceedor can handle- it's a 7th gen i3, which is the only thing that disqualified the upgrade. Thanks for your instructions
I installed win11 on an unsupported cpu(only the cpu,the device has a tpm and secure boot, well ram and storage can be upgraded anytime so not an issue, works fine to me,most Utility softwares I used has a version for win11,I mean the installers are 10/11 compatible,I used it to play games as well(valorant and genshin impact in specific) and also do codings there(I'm a student for clarification),I see no watermarks about unsupported device of whatsoever, and to be honest my cpu usage there in win11 are much smaller than when my device is at win10(the disk usage is still the same since I am using a HDD)
thx for sharing this
So, what's the point to installing Win 11 if you are not entitled to patches and critical updates? Critical updates and patches are the biggest reason to upgrade in my mind to Win 11 rather than sticking to an unsupported Win 10 (due to expire in Oct 25). Otherwise, the texture of where the start button is located is not much of a reason.
I run Windows 11 24H2 on an unsupported laptop and I got my January, 2025 updates yesterday.
Windows 11 2024 Update l Version 24H2) stuck at logo I have made a windows 11 from Windows 11 2024 Update l Version 24H2) at Saturday, 22 March 2025 by using RUFUS 4.6 but when i start windows 11 from USB, after showing windows logo few minutes later computer restart and this process repeat forever. I have earlier windows 11 iso download that i can install on the same pc with no problem.
I used Ventoy or Rufus to install Windows 11 as soon as they were functioning. In my opinion an clean install is always a better way to go. My concern would be MS saying that you're not eligible for updates under the new ability. One would certainly hope these are just words, not actual actions. If should be noted that MS have changed the headline on the article, removing the word "Installing" from the start of the headline. This implies that to get Win11, you must go through the upgrade to get W11, and cannot do a clean install. One has to wonder if a previous non-Win11 update will hobble these upgraded systems a little further down the line. You won't be able to bo back to Win10 after 10 days. You'll be left with a "choice" of wipe and rebuild to Win10, or the expense of new Win11 hardware. (complete with MS "selling" a new Win11 ;) )
Well, this is BS, now they are saying no i cant update it. I can't update my 4 year old pc because of no TMP. God i hate microsofts bs. They say we can but their system says nope.
The E-Waste is going to be huge if people will start to buy new computers just to run a stupid OS, If people will start to switch to Linux Microsoft will lose alot of customers. I run a ryzen 7-2700x cpu and in comparison with win 10, win 11 runs wierd, like lagging sometimes, and i have 32gb ram ddr4 and m.2 Samsung ssd's, win 10 was fine, but 11 is garbage, if something dosent change i will switch to ubuntu.
