2.2 million is damn impressive!! One contributing factor to this is probably the Japan-Only Switch 2, which is more affordable - though still somewhat expensive for some Japanese, to an extent.
Let's take a breath and point out they only mentioned it is for the My Nintendo store in Japan and about the demand for their preorder lottery, not retailers nationwide in Japan or any other place.
Crazy number. Lottery for Switch 2 in Japan need very high requirements but still got this huge demand. If it's sold more than PS2's 630,000 units in it's 1st week in Japan, it's will be the biggest console launch EVER in Japan ! FYI, Switch 1 only sold 330,000 units in it's 1st week in Japan
Reminds me of the Toy Story 2 line. "And this is the Buzz Lightyear aisle. Back in 1995, short-sighted retailers did not order enough dolls to meet demand"
Sounds like the switch 2 is gonna do massive numbers in Japan!
Nintendo even tried to avoid this by stockpiling units. I don't think people realize how huge of a launch this is going to be. Online sentiments are valid but people have been waiting over 8 years for a new Nintendo console and over 11 years for a new Mario Kart. It's going to be a monumental event.
Isnt this why the rumors were that it was delayed until 2025 to make sure they have enough supply. 🤔
This will only create MORE FOMO as more people learn that the Switch 2 is gonna be hard to get day 1.
I’m Japanese and I’m lucky I managed to preordered🥺
It's been 8 years since the Switch shortage. Nintendo sat by 5 years ago as there was the PS5 shortage. Switch 2 was delayed a year to ensure more stock could be built up... and it's still sold out?
Nintendo: well, some people on the internet thought it was way too pricey, so let's just advertise as hard as we can and hope that we can sell a couple of units... Staff: Nintendo-sama, we're already sold out and can't keep up with the demand! Nintendo: *surprised pikachu face*
To be fair, having over 6 times as many preorders from Japan as there were Switch 1 sales release weekend back in the day is definitely something that would've been tricky to predict.
I am worried, with all these gaming shortages. Hopefully, I can still play my Switch while this mess is being sorted out.
I'm just laughing because they said they were so confident that they had enough units to satisfy the launch market.
Why is the title of this video negative?? It should be demand in japan is huge, Nintendo stocks can't keep up with it.
"drop the price!" *preorders*
Nintendo: we gonna have enough! later Nintendo: So uh….heeeeey…😊
The fact that the console is already selling out in Japan is a good thing.
So THAT'S why the price is so high. Had to adjust for too-high demand for little supply.
