I think the game needs to be more alive a few ways are moving pepole fishes maybe objects like flags that wave or a windmill If you go with flags they can symbolize region or building using diffrent flag
Roads.... The map is in need of a bit of surface variety in some open areas, to accent the location. Paved roads or man made roads would as opposed to trails would be more in keeping with the built up areas.
Firstly I think it looks amazing and I love the style. A suggestion for the Fisherman's island is that you could have a few fishing lines strung across the path, connected to the roof terraces (sort of like communal washing lines). What is on those lines could be a variety of fishing equipment or fish hanging out to dry. This way you would visually break up the open space that you have at the moment without cluttering the ground too much. Also I think it would give more of a sense of depth to the player when running underneath the lines.
Marine life like turtles and fish would look good. Doesn't have to be interactive, just having fish be part of the design makes the world look more dynamic. Other than that, I really think this looks good :) Edit: the fisherman island could have some fish nets and fish barrels
Hey man I gotta say im not into game design but you make it seem so fun and interesting really shows that you are passionate about this project and I gotta say its turning up amazing!
The town is looking great. An idea that I'll leave is a noble's house/manor north of the main bulk of the town, sort of like a mayor/leader of the town. Specifically in the closer plots that you said you didn't have much planned for.
This game is looking really good so far!! Like one of the best indie games I have found so far. I swear this game better b a instant hit when u release it otherwise I’m throwing hands. some suggestions: -zoom in effect for certain parts of the game like when you’re at the top to the lighthouse. It’ll definitely add more immersion. -add like a calendar perhaps? Like a week cycle,(kinda like stardew valley’s) that way it’ll be easier to know when some day-specific events will occur. -maybe an option to go exploring the seas on a boat and finding new islands and resources? It’ll add more depth to exploring tho dunno if it fits what ur going for. -domesticating animal? Like in grasslands u can find wild cows and boars and you can capture them and domesticate them(or just create an npc who sells livestock lol) And wolves for dogs.....because who doesn’t want a wolfdog as a companion lol -do u plan on doing a multiplayer expansion? Cuz that would b sick Looking forward to more updates u go dude!!
Very impressive and inspiring, I really like the artstyle! Since everyone is dropping lots of suggestions, I'll do a few as well; a few random plants, bushes, flowers would really make a nice addition to the grass. Some rocks here and there sticking up out at sea (perhaps with crabs on them) might look nice. Maybe a few benches around the town? Chimneys? Again, very cool, I'll follow this series.
On the empty island could you add street performers or something? I don't know just trying to help lol
Seeing my idea get implemented into the game definitely made my day! I'm super impressed by how much progress you made in such a short time.
Just found this channel.... Lighthouse idea is awesome! :) I think a really underused feature in games is having all these mysterious structures and objects just sitting around the map for the player to find at any time and think "wow, I can't wait to see how this area eventually ties into the story", rather than "player unlocks new area, finds new things". Love that fishing area too.... could use with some darker patches of mud around the edges and possible a few blades of grass and rocks dotted around the edges of the houses?
this looks great, I suggest adding some moss around the water areas, I think they are to clean. Try experimenting with vertex painting and a multiple texture shader
Such a beautiful and inspiring artstyle! However, a small note on the lighthouse design: Maybe add a wooden floor instead of stone floor at the top? And maybe a little wooden support or similar around the outside where it bulges out? All this just to give the general structure a less monochrome look.
Great work man! I have a minor suggestion: for the supporting planks of the dock you could make a darker wood texture in the submerged part to give an effect of being wet.
The world you two are creating is getting exciting!! Really into following up til the end! Do not think of giving up!! XD. Great ideas from followers, lighthouse, and additional villages were great assets added. My only suggestion is that you link these to a meaningful context to your game, so they are not just additions to compose a bigger picture. Having a roadmap for the game History (Main Quest), Lore, and Side Quests are a good way to link these changes to what the player may expect to interact with. I'm not from game dev industry, but I think it is very similar to product development, knowing where you want to get. It may help you define what is important to direct your efforts. I didn't see all DevLog video series yet, but if there is something you can share to the community, maybe we can give even better ideas!! I'm sure lots of us around here have cool stuff in mind :-D
The first time ever seeing this, I would like to say, looks amazing, and advice I would give, maybe add some atmosphere to the different areas because it all kinda just looks the same to me. Like fog in the pirate island or something, anyway, love the stuff keep it up :D
Maybe add a hotel/bed and breakfast type building. People with different skill sets could rotate in and out of this city through this building.
It's amazing to see someone that has quite a big amount of subs, yet still really close to his fans, amazing job and great video!
Crevis cracks in the mountains that lead to randomly generated dungeons where you can gain loot for soldiers.
