Tony Calvento was one of the most powerful crime reporters on TV, radio, and newspaper. Starting out as a newspaper columnist with his column Hotline, he then crossed over to television and radio with Calvento Files. When it aired on ABS-CBN, Calvento Files was an unconventional crime & investigation anthology that took the risk and push the limits of what quality television was with its focus on true crime, by exposing graphic elements like showing the actual crime scene, corpses of the victims, and even hiding the identities of some people. One of its most notable episodes was about the 1984 Sikatuna Massacre, of which one of its victims was legendary composer, arranger and conductor Domeng Valdez, who was the original musical director of the pre-Martial Law ABS-CBN show Your Evening with Pilita. Tony Calvento died years back, but his legacy as a storyteller of true crime and investigation will remain relentless.
