SHOCKING: TRAGEDY STRIKES A PRIEST ON ASH WEDNESDAY

The Catholic community is in mourning after a heartbreaking event shook the faithful. Father Sylvester Okechukwu, a dedicated priest from St. Mary Tachira Church in Kaduna State, Nigeria, tragically lost his life after being kidnapped by armed men. The incident, which occurred between March 4 and 5, has left deep sorrow and raised serious concerns about the growing insecurity in the region.

This shocking event is part of a troubling pattern of violence against clergy in Nigeria. Just days before, another attack targeted Father Philip Ekeli and seminarian Peter Andrew, who were abducted in Edo State. Meanwhile, two more priests remain missing since February 22 in the Diocese of Yola. The crisis continues to escalate, leaving fear and uncertainty among religious communities.

Rescue operations are underway, and international organizations like Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) have called attention to the alarming number of kidnappings and attacks on priests. In 2023 alone, 13 priests were kidnapped in Nigeria, with one losing his life. Now, Father Sylvester joins the growing list of victims.
