In 2004, Reach Records co-founder Ben Washer sat in a small room in Denton, TX, and sketched out what would become the iconic 116 logo—a symbol inspired by Romans 1:16 and created to represent a group of Christian hip-hop artists seeking to redefine their genre by producing high-quality music that would glorify the name of Jesus.

The early songs captured their everyday experiences as young college students committed to local ministry—volunteering at detention centers, hosting youth summer camps, leading Bible studies—while creating lifelong friendships. This symbol would evolve to represent a generation of believers committed to an unashamed expression of their faith.

116 was a rallying movement before Reach Records was started, but "we felt like we wanted it to be a part of what we were doing," - Ben Washer.
