Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the US, not only because it is super fun, but also because research increasingly shows it has a number of benefits for physical health, brain health, and mental health. In this video, we will review a study involving a 6-week intervention of playing pickleball for one hour per day, 3 days per week. Remarkably, even this small amount of physical activity had an impressive impact on risk factors for heart disease -- hypertension (high blood pressure), LDL and HDL cholesterol, and VO2 max, which is a measure of cardiorespiratory/aerobic fitness.
