This City has India's First Zero-Waste Airport!
It’s none other than Indore. But how did they do it?
• By installing a 3000 sq ft Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that processes waste from planes and the airport itself.
• Not just that, the dry waste is sorted into 10 categories for better recycling and resource recovery.
• This modern waste processing plant at the airport handles 750 kg of waste daily, ensuring minimal landfill use.
• What about wet waste? Well, that is turned into nutrient-rich fertilizer using the 4R principle: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Restore.
• The compost is then used for the airport’s landscaping!
• The project is built to support itself financially.
• The money made by selling compost and recycled materials will pay the salaries of the green workers.
This is a big step for sustainability! Should other airports also go green and reduce waste? Share what you think in the comments!
