In the spring of 2019, I took a study abroad trip to New Zealand. I was on that trip for about 3 months traveling all across the country with my mom at first and then meeting up with the group of 20 other students from my college who were participating in the study abroad program.

About a week and half of that time was spent exclusively at Queenstown. During that time I was able to visit Milford Sound twice, go bungee jumping (never again), see all sorts of amazing sights, and make memories that I will cherish forever. I am grateful for all of these things.

It wasn’t until after I got back to the United States after that trip that I started listening to Passenger’s music. I enjoyed all of his music when I listened to it although none of it affected me on a deeper level.

That is until I heard this song.

Passenger released this song a few days after I moved into my new apartment and started living by myself for the first time. All of his lyrics just hit me like one of the giant waves at Piha Beach. From, “sun going down to the Piano Man,” describing that wonderful piano busker in downtown Queenstown, to, “Life goes fast, now years have passed, and I'm living on my own,” describing my current situation; I knew that this song just described everything so perfectly in that moment.
