How To Teach Dogs To Be Calm In Public

You'll notice that I'm letting Oliver wander a bit and not asking him to sit down, and that's an adjustment I made specifically for him. If his reactivity was worse, or he was unable to stand still, I'd ask him to sit next to me, but this session is more about building confidence, so I'm giving him a bit more freedom. For most dogs, I'd have them sit or lie down next to me. I'm also using a clicker for him, as this can be extremely helpful with dogs having a harder time focusing.
