American Fleet Attacked by Japanese Kamikaze Pilots (1940s) | War Archives

Japanese Kamikaze pilots attack a US fleet in a last desperate attempt to inflict as much damage as possible as US forces close in on Mainland Japan. The nose of the plane was packed with over 2000 lbs of explosive and exploded on impact. The Japanese believed death was a price worth paying if it meant detroying such a high value target. Three Aircraft Carriers were hit: USS St. Lo, USS Ommaney and USS Bismarck.
