WHOLE MASOOR DAL RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
1 cup of whole masoor soaked for 4-5 hours
750 ml of water
1 tsp of ginger paste
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
1 medium sized tomato finely chopped
1” cinnamon stick
3 cloves
1 tsp of cumin seeds
2 bay leaves
7-8 peppercorns
3 red chillies
Salt to taste
1 tbsp of tamarind paste
1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
1 tsp of red chilli powder
3-4 tbsp of ghee
5 cloves of garlic crushed
1 tsp of cumin seeds
Few broken red chillies
Sprig of curry leaves
METHOD
Add 1 cup of whole masoor soaked for 4-5 hours in a cooker
To it add 750 ml of water
Add 1 tsp of ginger paste
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
Add 1 medium sized tomato finely chopped
1” cinnamon stick
3 cloves
1 tsp of cumin seeds
2 bay leaves
7-8 peppercorns
3 red chillies
Salt to taste
Give it a good mix and pressure cook it for 1 whistle
Add 1 tbsp of tamarind paste
Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
1 tsp of red chilli powder
Give it a good mix
Boil the dal for 5-10 minutes
For tempering,
Heat 3-4 tbsp of ghee
Add 5 cloves of garlic crushed
Wait for them to change the colour to golden brown
Add 1 tsp of cumin seeds to it
Add a few broken red chillies
Mix it well
Add a few sprigs of curry leaves
Mix it
Add the tadka to the dal
Let the dal rest for 2-3 minutes before serving
