Are These The Best Switch Joy-Cons? NYXI Hyperion 2

Over the years, I have discussed my overall dislike for the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED Joy-Cons. I think they are too small, inaccurate, and don’t get me started on Joy-Con Drift! I’ve used a number of controllers from Nyxi over the years and really been quite impressed with them. They just sent us their new Hyperion 2 Wireless controllers to check out, let’s see if this late into the Switch Lifecycle if these aren’t perhaps the best Joy-Cons to-date!

● Adjustable Colorful RGB Lighting - One-click adjustment for different visual experiences.
● Replaceable Magnetic Face Covers - Refresh the look at any time
● Micro Switch Buttons & Triggers - Crisp sound, precise and quick responses
● Ergonomic Grips - Offering a comfortable and natural hold for an enjoyable gaming experience
● Carrying Case - Convenient storage and portability
● Adjustable Turbo Function
● Dual Programmable Back Buttons
● 6-Axis Gyro Motion Sensing
● Adjustable Vibration Feedback

Initial Thoughts:
I know a lot of people love the Hori Split Pad and the Split Pad Pro. I do not. I think for the money they don’t offer the features that other controllers, such as these do. I also think the Split Pad is way too large for my personal taste. With that out of the way…

Comfort:
The Hyperion 2 Joy-Cons are textured to make sure you don’t lose your grip while playing. They’re not sandpapery, if that makes sense, they’re just textured. I think they did a good job making something that’s not annoying to hold. They also did a great job with the ergonomics, and they aren’t as ginormous as the Split Pad yet they are still larger than the originals. These are pretty stinking comfortable!

Features:
The LED lighting is one of Nyxi’s trademark features and it’s on full display here, no pun intended. You have multiple modes and colors to choose from, and you can also just turn the lights off if you want. The rumble is pretty good too, even before I made and adjustments to it. Perhaps the biggest feature over the originals is the inclusion of Hall Effect sensors on the analog sticks and micro switches on the face and shoulder buttons. The Analog sticks are super smooth and felt decent during gameplay. The face buttons and shoulder buttons were also really responsive thanks to their micro switch design.

On-Board Battery:
My biggest complaint about the Split Pad is they have no off-system functionality since they lack a battery. These do have an on-board battery and charge right on the system. That’s a lot nicer than having to charge using a USB-C Cable.

Miss:
I find it odd there’s no joiner included to use these as a pro-style controller. I don’t understand this choice.

I only got to play with them for a little bit but so far they’re not bad. Stay tuned for our full review!
