This Is What GameStop Told Us About This Week's Switch 2 Pre-orders!

With the initial announcement and subsequent delay of the preorder window of the Nintendo Switch 2, there's been quite a bit of confusion. Nintendo recently announced that North American pre-orders will open at brick-and-mortar retailers on April 24, 2025. While I have had issues with the GameStop location in Champaign, IL they have had another complete turnover of the store staff so I decided to go in and see if I could learn anything about the upcoming pre-orders and trade-in procedure. This is what I learned.

Store Hours:
This particular location is opening at 11am that day. The employee recommended getting there before the store opens.

How Many Can You Order?
They are limiting customers to 1 Switch 2, this way they are reducing the odds of scalpers reserving all of them.

How many will each store have?
No idea at this time. She didn't know how many they were expecting, but she did indicate that when all their preorders were done, they'd stop being able to take orders.

What are your old Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED trade-in values?
The Switch Lite will get you a $100 credit, $125 for a Switch V1 or V2, and $175 for a Switch OLED.

What should you do to ensure you get the maximum value?
The biggest thing to remember is that, if it came with your Switch, you need to bring it in when you trade it in. This includes the power supply, OEM dock, Joy-Cons, and Joy-Con Grip. One thing you need to ensure you trade in as well is the Joy-Con straps, something she mentioned that many people forget. If you don't know where yours are, don't sweat it, they'll sell you a set for $4.

Do you have to trade in when you Pre-Order your system?
Nope

Do you have to trade in before you pick up your system?
You sure can! In fact, it'll probably speed things up if you trade in your system after the reservations open and before launch day. This way, they can process your system and test it out without backing up the line inside the store. This is what I am planning on doing.

What do you need to do before trading in?
Make sure you remove your Micro SD Card, delete your profile, and factory reset your system.

What about accessories and games?
You can pre-order them at the same time as the Switch 2. This includes either the bundle system with Mario Kart World or the system alone, Pro Controller 2, Joy-Con 2, and Camera.
