In movies, the reading of a will is a very solemn, dramatic moment - almost like the will is the entire estate plan. In reality, a will is not sufficient to determine how all of your assets are handled. Without a trust, your family will very likely be subjected to the probate court process.

Wills do still serve some important functions, though, and in California, they are a necessary part of an effective estate plan. In this video, Ellen will discuss:
