Come May 22, compounding pharmacies must stop making semaglutide injections, which serve as a more affordable generic alternative to Ozempic and Wegovy, for weight loss and diabetes treatment.
This decision follows a judge's denial of the pharmacies' request to continue selling the formulation.
Compound pharmacies were originally allowed to make similar versions of brands like Ozempic and Wegovy because the FDA declared a shortage. But, in February, the FDA declared the shortage over.
