How to Apply the New IOD Gilded Transfers #iod

The new IOD products are here and they are amazing! Sure we got new stamps, new paint inlays, new moulds and even new transfers. IOD also released something new…gilded transfers
.
A few of my customers were a little hesitant to use the new products, but I want to assure you that these are super easy as long as you keep a few things in mind .

1. Make sure to apply your transfer to a surface that has been painted and has dried thoroughly. (Even overnight) I prefer to put my transfers on a surface that has a topcoat. One of my favorite products is DIY Paint Cottage Color (paint and topcoat in one). In this video, I am using the color Anvil, which is a beautiful black.
2. While I’m putting down my transfer, I am also applying pressure in the OPPOSITE direction. I do this by grabbing a corner of the transfer and slightly pulling it up while I am pushing down on the applicator to apply the transfer in the opposite direction..
3. Go SLOWLY! Take your time applying the transfer. While you work pull it back to check how it is going. If something is not releasing put your transfer back in place and just go over it again. I have found these transfers need a little bit less pressure than the normal transfers, but they can be finicky and you wanna make sure you’re checking as you go to get every last bit of the transfer exactly where you want it.
4. It helps if you have your transfer taped down in place so will not move as you work.
5. Seal your transfer after you are done. I have used the water-based topcoat Big Top from DIY Paint, but friends of mine have also used the clear wax from DIY Paint and had great results.
