Namaskar and hello! Welcome to my YouTube channel historical wonders. This place is known as Aga khan palace also as Gandhi national memorial, situated in the heart of Pune city, Maharashtra. The Aga khan palace has been declared as a monument of national importance by the archaeological survey of India in the year 2003. This palace was built by the 3rd Aga khan, sultan Mohammad shah Aga khan who was the spiritual head of the khoja Ismaili religion. This place holds a great historical significance. Because here Mahatma Gandhi landed as a prisoner and in the year 1942, Aga khan palace was converted into a prison. This monument is great memorial to Gandhiji and his simple life. The museum inside the palace has a rich collection of pictures and photographs of the important incidents of his life. Wide assortment of personal belongings including utensils, clothes, mala, slippers, and a letter written by Gandhiji on the demise of his secretary. Also, small amount of Gandhiji ashes is kept near samadhis of Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai. Now if we come to the monument architecture it has resemblance of European style architecture and covered with lush green vegetation which enhances the beauty of this palace. There is also one library where you can delve yourself in the life of mahatma Gandhi. Thank you!
