The App Market is Very Fragile - A Minute of Overpass - UK App Developers

Wow, it's been a tough week.

In previous Minute of Overpass videos, I've talked about how I use Admob as my ad network on most of my apps. It's worked very well . . . until it didn't.

This week, I tell you about how Admob shut off one of my apps for a few days and talk about how fragile this app market can be.

For more information, visit http://www.overpass.co.uk.

Hi this is A Minute of Overpass. My name is Eric and I make apps. Now this week I wanna talk about how the app market is so, so fragile.
So basically I re-released a new version like within the same day or a day later actually with ChartBoost and so we can still serve some ads is still start getting revenue in and then a few days later AdMob allowed, they did accept the appeal but basically what I said was I'm not using out before interstitials anymore and they did accept the appeal. So now we have banners through AdMob as well but it's been a terrible week.
Now ChartBoost, despite what everybody tells you, does not perform as well as AdMob, at least not for me. So to give you an example and a very drastic example, on a daily basis this one interstitial ad was making me about eighty pounds a day on AdMob and is making me about five pounds a day on ChartBoost. So it's a huge drop, it's almost like not worth even having those interstitials for that amount.
So the next few weeks is gonna be a lot more trying different ad networks. I want to try the Facebook audience network. I wanna try a of different ad networks so that might be what I'm talking about the next few weeks and talk about how how the different ad networks are performing, at least for my apps.
But my point this week is that the at March the app market is very very fragile. A few years ago I had two apps suspended for very mysterious reasons. Google Play actually removed the free version, only the free versions of ice by an alarm spy, which were two companions to the Ear Spy and the reason they said was because there was some malware in there whatever. I said well there is no malware. All I have is the SDKs for the ad networks, that AdMob, recommends so once I removed those, because it was suspended I can't do anything. Now I did appeal that decision back then and basically they came back said no, appeal rejected. And working with the Google Play and this kind of stuff, it's a very faceless type of thing. It's not like you get on the phone and plead your case, you know, it's basically, there's some committee somewhere and all that.
My point this week is more of a cautionary tale. The app market is very fragile. Don't rely on one source of income. Don't rely on one app. Make sure you have a portfolio. And make sure you have backup plans like if this doesn't work out, we'll go to this, if doesn't work out will go to that. There's a lot of things I've been wanting to try over the past few years which I'm going to try now now that I'm kinda forced into that direction. I want to do incentivize videos. I wanna do try different networks. I'm gonna try to push the in-app purchases a little bit more. A lot of things that because it was doing so well before it hasn't really caused me to do it so there's a lot more experimentation but that happen in the next few months. So that's it for this week. I hope you enjoyed it. Terrible week for me but hopefully it's been a good week for you and I'll talk to you next week. Bye.
