India has lost 2.3 million hectares of tree cover since 2000, driven by logging, deforestation, agriculture, and natural disasters. Five states—Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh—account for 60% of this loss. With the world’s second-highest deforestation rate, this destruction fuels extreme weather and climate change, highlighting the urgent need to protect our forests.
