Mohanlal in Devasuram as antagonist | Deva as well as ASSURAN #mohanlal #shorts

Devasuram begins with a commoner speaking of the gallant's beholds in Ezhilakkara, the renowned land for the supremacy of Mangalassery Neelakandan. From the very first shot, the story immerses viewers in Neelakandan's charisma, showing a shadow of his dominance cast over each turn and corner there. The movie slowly opens us to the feud between the feudal families Mangalassery and Mundakkal. The story begins with the formidable legacy of Mangalasherry Neelakandan, a role brought to life with unmatched brilliance by Mohanlal. At the heart of this epic is Mundakkal Shekaran, portrayed powerfully by Napoleon, whose performance breathes new life into this complex character. When the writer Ranjith and the director IV Sasi were uncertain about the casting, it was Mohanlal himself who suggested the exceptional talent of Napoleon, recognizing the immense significance Shekaran holds in Neelakandan's life. It was Mohanlal's profound insight into Shekaran's character that guided this creative process, allowing us to explore the untold saga of this fallen lord—Mundakkal Shekaran, whose fate intertwines with Neelakandan in ways that would redefine both their destinies.

Shekaran’s desire for the defeat of Neelakandan spreads like an obsession that stems from repeated humiliations. He too seeks a sense of liberation from the shadow Neelakandan casts over his life, a shadow he desperately wants to cut free from. Shekaran matches our true self as one carrier of insults from a lifetime to push us into becoming the supreme soul portrayed in Devasuram, which is how an ultimate source of vengeance could define our destiny.
Shekaran's hatred thrives in his life, picking even the childhood pieces of defeats that burnt him deep down into becoming the violent child who alienated his life to one pursuit, for the day his eyes to see, nerves to feel, and to feed his pride in Neelakandan’s fall. His encounter with the concubine, where the corners of the brothel echo of praises, subhadramma chants about Neelakandan cuts deep down to the core where he stood with a name and a life so futile.

His obsession on the other side turned into a path of redemption in Neelakandan's life. Neelakandan's transformation becomes both crucial and unconquerable without Shekaran. Shekaran could never be a mere rival, he is a mirror, a dark force in Neelakandan’s life that barges Neelan to confront his flaws and vulnerability, a chance to come face to face with the journey of a rebirth for a neelakandan that is yet to be discovered.
The truth about his life struck him as a moment of devastation invoking the idea of the father figure being far alien in the context of his life and reality as the man now withholds the new title, his new and only possession- Bastard. Neelakandan’s flow of life shifts to roll around his new reality and seek an arm for evolution as a new person as the second stage of the film unfolds. It is Shekaran's vengeance that ultimately sets the stage for Neelakandan’s awakening to land back on his origin- as for one to change one must get to the roots first. As the fight with Neelakandan parks him to the ground of vulnerability, unknowingly Mundakkal Shekaran shreds Mangalassery Neelakandan's arrogance and pride which was once an armour to Neelakandan.
Neelan starts to pick pieces of life, broken to every limb of his survival from there he re-routs his journey built with peace and humility. He decides to wither away the tracks that follow the trail of the feudal lord Mangallassery Neelakandan.

Devasuram evolves as the two equally strong lords where one turns out to be a titan and the other his shadow ends up as the supreme being a bastard and the other to be the reason for his redemption. In this way, Shekaran is integral to the culmination of Neelakandan's arc, forcing him to rise above vengeance and embrace his humanity. Shekaran might seem like a tragic force, both cursed and essential, but it is he who ensured Neelakandan’s ultimate rise, while his own life remained consumed by the very rivalry that defined Shekaran’s fall. That defeat defines the reason why Neelakandan is incomplete without Shekaran and his vengeance.
