Vintage Flip for $330 Profit!

I picked up this beautiful vintage yellow velvet tufted sofa for $20, which is still a steal despite it needing some work, mostly cleaning! When a sofa is $20 I have zero expectations but the ad said “no pet hair!” so then I had an expectation and I am not kidding when I said I have NEVER seen more cat hair on a sofa in my life! 😂 I am super allergic so I was sneezing like crazy while getting this thing clean!

Ok, the second thing, which is a tip I learned from @jamieandsarah on how to update old chairs and sofas with skirts - ripping off the skirt will reveal the legs underneath and give the piece a more modern appeal BUT, there is some context to add. Some manufacturers are lazy and don’t stretch the fabric all the way under the frame if they are putting a skirt on! If this is the case you can achieve the same look by stapling the skirting underneath and cutting off any excess. I always check before getting started, and I checked the front of this piece and the fabric was stretched under, good to go! WRONG! The fabric on both arm sides was only down to the bottom so some staples and uneven fabric are visible.

A sofa like this in good shape can easily get $650, but I posted for $350 and sold in about 1 week due to the fabric issues and there were a couple small rips.

Still, at the end of the day it was 2 hours of work and about 1.5 hours of driving for $330 profit. No complaints!
