The Untold Story of CarbonCure & Heirloom: How This Startup is Tackling the Construction Industry's Carbon Problem with Groundbreaking Technology.
CarbonCure is a Canadian clean technology startup that has developed a process to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete production. Concrete is one of the most widely used building materials in the world, but its production is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions due to the high levels of energy required to produce cement, a key ingredient in concrete. CarbonCure was founded in 2007 by Robert Niven and has since grown to become a leading player in the sustainable building materials industry.
Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology startup Heirloom announced today that it has raised $53 million in a Series A funding round, one of the largest private financings in direct air capture to date. Heirloom’s solution aims to provide Direct Air Capture at low cost, enhancing the natural process of binding CO2 to naturally occurring minerals utilizing abundant and affordable minerals and leveraging mature technology and infrastructure. The company has set a goal to remove 1 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2035.
Both the start-ups are funded by Bill Gates' Breakthrough Energy Ventures and many others.
