Today we continue our exploration of scientific terms.
We will pay close attention to a term that can be difficult for speakers of many languages – Russian, French, Persian, and more.
What is this word?
Method
A method is a systematic process for doing something.
Why might this term be difficult to pronounce?
There are two reasons:
1. The consonant –th-
2. The two different vowel sounds
Let’s explore each in turn.
We pronounce the –th- like this:
We put out lip between our teeth and breathe out. Your vocal cords should not move. We can practice like this:

For the vowel sounds, we need to carefully differentiate between them.
The first vowel sound is this:
ˈme-thəd
The second vowel sound is this:
ˈme-thəd
Now let’s say both of the vowel sounds:
We will now say the entire word together:
