In 1952, Rosalind Franklin and her PhD student Raymond Gosling captured Photo 51, an X-ray image that revealed DNA’s true shape: a double helix.
This photo gave James Watson and Francis Crick the final clue they needed.
On April 25, 1953, their model of DNA was published in Nature,
laying the foundation for modern genetics.
But Franklin’s name? Not included in that historic paper.
Though her work was key, her recognition came far too late.
