Cajititlan Lagoon
Cajititlán is a town in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga in the Mexican state of Jalisco. It is part of the Cajititlán riverbank along with the Cajititlán lagoon.
Cajititlán is a picturesque town, Cajititlán is also the name of its beautiful lagoon surrounded by mountains and magical towns. It is the lagoon of the metropolitan area of ​​Guadalajara, which makes it a unique and special place. This lagoon is made of rainwater that runs off the mountains that surround it and accumulates on a firm and salty tepetate bottom.
The meaning of the name Cajititlán comes from its Nahuatl root "Caxitl" which means bowl, plate, gourd or container.
A great tourist attraction in Cajititlán is the Basilica of the Kings, which houses in its golden altarpiece the beautiful sculptures of the three wise men carved in mesquite wood in 1587, and where year after year, from December 30 to January 8, the traditional feast of the Three Wise Men is celebrated, with music, dances, pastorelas, pilgrimages, masses, castles and fireworks, and with thousands of faithful who come to receive the blessings of the Holy Kings. January 7 is the day when the three wise men leave the temple to tour the town, and are taken in canoes across the lagoon so that they pour out their blessings on the lake and the inhabitants of the river.
