HLA typing is often suggested after recurrent pregnancy loss, but in most cases, it is expensive and not routinely needed.
In this case, the couple had only 17% matching with 2 out of 12 alleles. That’s not a cause for concern. It becomes relevant only if matching is more than 35%.
Even then, there’s not much that can be done, as HLA-C is highly polymorphic. In rare cases, we also check the KIR gene for compatibility issues and may consider immunosuppression therapy.
But not every abnormal report means action is needed.
