Team Saves 4-day-old Baby with Rare Condition: Cameron's Story

World-renowned surgeons perform a series of incredible procedures to take Cameron from the brink of death to happy and healthy. www.chop.edu/conditions-diseases/hirschsprung-s-di…

When he was 4 days old, Cameron suddenly stopped eating, was lethargic and breathing strangely, and looked blue. He was rushed to the nearest hospital and then transferred by helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) where he underwent emergency surgery to save his life and was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease.

This video shares the experience Cameron and his family went through at CHOP to treat this rare and life-threatening condition, including multiple surgeries to repair his colon and reconstruct his bowel.

Cameron’s pediatric surgeon, Emily A. Partridge, MD, PhD, MHS, collaborated with Myron Allukian, III, MD, a CHOP surgeon with special expertise in colorectal surgery, to perform a pull-through procedure.

By age four, Cameron had his last surgery. He is now able to poop normally. Cameron’s family credits the whole team at CHOP for his transformation from a very sick infant near death, to a healthy, high-energy kid.
