Rani Ki Vav - A Queen’s Memorial to her King

A masterpiece of subterranean construction, the Rani Ki Vav stepwell in Gujarat’s Patan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Commissioned by Queen Udayamati in the 11th century as a memorial to her husband, King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty.

The stepwell was not only a functional water resource but also a sacred space for worship.
Its stunning craftsmanship depict various aspects of Hindu mythology with over 500 principal sculptures that are intricately carved.
