61-year old Farmer RUNS 544 miles!

A 61 year old farmer ran a 544 mile ultramarathon in borrowed shoes by using this special running technique:

In one of the biggest underdog tales in sports history, Australian sheep farmer Cliff Young competed against the best ultramarathon runners in the world in the 544-mile Westfield ultramarathon in 1983.

The other runners were in their 20’s and 30’s and had high tech gear and professional training.

Cliff showed up in boots and overalls before borrowing an old pair of running shoes.

He ran at a slow, steady shuffle other runners mocked as they quickly left him behind in the dust.

However his strange shuffle was actually far more energetically efficient, and day by day as other runners slowed down or stopped to sleep he started passing them by.

Eventually his peculiar running style and insane mental grit saw him take the lead, fueled primarily by raw milk.

In the end he won the race by over 10 hours - and then donated most of the prize money to the other competitors, stating that they had worked just as hard as he had.
